lso%20studied%20in%20one%20double-blind%2C%20placebo-controlled%20clinical%20study.%20Serum%20prolactin%20levels%20were%20indeed%20reduced%20in%20the%20patients%20treated%20with%20the%20extract.%20The%20search%20for%20the%20prolactin-suppressive%20principle%28s%29%20yielded%20a%20number%20of%20compounds%20with%20dopaminergic%20properties%3A%20they%20bound%20to%20recombinant%20DA2-receptor%20protein%20and%20suppressed%20prolactin%20release%20from%20cultivated%20lactotrophs%20as%20well%20as%20in%20animal%20experiments.%20The%20search%20for%20the%20chemical%20identity%20of%20the%20dopaminergic%20compounds%20resulted%20in%20isolation%20of%20a%20number%20of%20diterpenes%20of%20which%20some%20clerodadienols%20were%20most%20important%20for%20the%20prolactin-suppressive%20effects.%20They%20were%20almost%20identical%20in%20their%20prolactin-suppressive%20properties%20than%20dopamine%20itself.%20Hence%2C%20it%20is%20concluded%20that%20dopaminergic%20compounds%20present%20in%20Vitex%20agnus%20castus%20are%20clinically%20the%20important%20compounds%20which%20improve%20premenstrual%20mastodynia%20and%20possibly%20also%20other%20symptoms%20of%20the%20premenstrual%20syndrome.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%22May%202003%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22eng%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1078%5C%2F094471103322004866%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%220944-7113%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222020-09-18T10%3A14%3A31Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
